Ipamorelin is a synthetic peptide designed to activate the growth-hormone secretagogue receptor, also called GHS-R1a, and stimulate the body's own release of growth hormone.

Unlike CJC-1295, which acts through the growth-hormone-releasing hormone receptor, ipamorelin primarily targets the ghrelin receptor. Its clinical benefits have not been established.

Ipamorelin acts upstream of growth hormone through GHS-R1a signaling. A functioning pituitary is required for this type of secretagogue to produce its intended hormonal effect.
